Combining Christmas traditions of different cultures
There
will be entertainment in the Piazza of the Italian Forum throughout
December but a special Christmas Concert will be held on
Saturday 16th December from 4pm.
An
interweaving of cultures, it will include traditional Italian Zampogna
(bagpipes)), a ‘living nativity scene’ performed by children from local
school Leichhardt Public, a Commedia dell’arte performance as well as
local school choirs and orchestral performances of Christmas pieces
There will be a nativity display inside the Cultural Centre. To
experience a different type of Christmas magic, come to the Piazza to
join in the festive spirit.
On the
6th January, the Piazza will be abuzz with the
Festival of the Befana. The day will be filled with entertainment
for children including a puppet show by Murphy’s Puppets and an
entertaining and highly amusing musical performance by Mic Conway. The
highlight will be the arrival of Befana - the benevolent Italian witch
who bears gifts for the children who have been good – and “charcoal” for
those who have not!
The
Italian Forum Cultural Centre acknowledges the kind assistance of
